New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia issued instructions late Friday evening, asking the students living in hostels to vacate the rooms and return home immediately.

This instruction has come from the university after the Union Home Ministry approved the operation of trains to take the stranded students to their states.

The notice was issued by the university registrar AP Siddiqui for students, teachers and personnel saying that this decision has been taken under the escalation of lockdown due to the rescue from COVID-19 and UGC’s April 29 guideline.

The university said, “Students stranded in hostels who could not go to their homes earlier and are staying here are instructed to vacate the hostels as per the arrangements made for transport and travel by the state governments.”

Notice by Jamia Administration

According to the Times of India report, the Jamia administration told the students that now the university will open in August and the new academic session will start from September. There will also be a change in the schedule of examinations to be held in July.

The order issued by the university said, ‘Currently the university is closed for all purposes. Library and other institutional facilities are also closed due to the lockdown.

The Jamia administration asked the students to contact the Chief Academic Officer (Provost) of the institute for travel arrangements made to return to their respective homes.

The order stated, ‘It is very difficult for the university to maintain the requirements of logistics and manpower in future. Hostels need sanitization and repair so hostels have to be completely evacuated without any relaxation. Provosts (boys and girls hostels) are requested to start this process immediately. ‘

With this, the university said that the notification of the examination schedule for July 2020 will be released soon.
